There are not two sides to the truth!!
The Republican convention repeatedly strummed the high moral caliber of their view of the world. They referred to family values, traditional marriage, g-d directed restrictions on womens choices, same gender marriages, gays in the military, the sanctity of life beginning with conception (HR212 Ryan/Aiken).
When did lying become a Christian value?
Speaker after speaker told lies about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid without a blink to the reality of how they are funded, distribute funds or the soundness of the single payor system that handles Medicare, US miltary etc.
How can a man who was a cleric (bishop) in his church continue to tell lies about what is easily fact checked?
How can he tell stories about his mother (she was pro choice) backing pro choice when he was in Mass and then flip to his present position opposing womens rights, education, health care etc. He uses his deceased mother as a touchstone to his view of the world though she publically stood for rights he has agreed to trample should he get the big chair. The following is from his run for the Senate against Ted Kennedy. "Back when Romney was running for Senate as a pro-choice challenger to Ted Kennedy in 1994, he invoked his mother’s position on the issue in a debate.
“I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country; I have since the time that my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate,” Romney said, adding:
“I have my own beliefs, and those beliefs are very dear to me. One of them is that I do not impose my beliefs on other people. Many, many years ago, I had a dear, close family relative that was very close to me who passed away from an illegal abortion. It is since that time that my mother and my family have been committed to the belief that we can believe as we want, but we will not force our beliefs on others on that matter. And you will not see me wavering on that.” (Emphasis added.)
Romney again invoked his mother’s “bold and courageous” position in a 2002 Massachusetts gubernatorial debate in which he said he was strongly in favor of preserving a woman’s right to choose." Salon.com
So, is lying now a mainstream value?
*Different views exist on the meaning of this commandment. Some interpret the scope in the narrowest possible sense, as only a prohibition of lying in courtroom testimony. Other interpretations view the commandment as a prohibition on any false statement that degrades our neighbor's reputation or dignity. Still others interpret the commandment in the broadest possible sense: as a prohibition on all lying.
"There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers." Proverbs 6:16-19
